Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907, into a Sikh household in Lyallpur, Western Punjab, India (now in Pakistan). His parents were Kishan Singh Sandhu and Vidya Vati. His father Kishan Singh, uncle Ajit Singh, and grandpa Arjan Singh all took an active part in the Indian independence movement.
It is reported that Bhagat Singh’s father and two uncles were incarcerated at the time of his birth because they had participated in the 1907 unrest around the Canal Colonization Bill.
