On October 31, 1951, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. was born. As of 2023, he was 72 years old. He was raised in a West Virginian tiny town and went to Monongah High School. In addition to being an all-conference defensive back at Kent State University, Saban played football in high school and college. After earning his business administration degree in 1973, he intended to work in the automobile sales industry. But his interest in coaching was piqued when his previous coach, Don James, offered him a position as a graduate assistant at Kent State.
